Wanted to pass along that the shocking claims made Wednesday night on WBT’s John Hancock did indeed come from former Mecklenburg County assistant district attorney Richard Gordon. Gordon had previously said back in 1997 that no one from CMPD had ever told him about the evidence it had gathered implicated Marion Gales in the murder of Kim Thomas. It was the defense attorney who confronted Gordon with the evidence in open court during a pre-trial proceeding.

What I believe to be new information is Gordon’s assertion that he was fired in November 1997 by Peter Gilchrist for refusing to change his testimony on the Gales evidence in Dr. Edward Friedland’s 1997 civil action against the city. Needless to say, Gordon does not have a very high opinion of Gilchrist.

“In my view, he’s just a craven, two-bit politician whose ego needs constant care and feeding,” Gordon told an obviously flabbergasted Hancock.

I understand that Gordon has since put what he told WBT in writing and sent it on to other media outlets. This is not going away for quite some time.

Update: I should note that a poster claiming to be Edward Friedland’s sister has added to the story line here. I sincerely appreciate the input, but I have to always say that the IDs cannot be independently verified, although I accept them as accurate. We won’t be turning this topic loose anytime soon.
