Gas stations in Fayetteville and Western North Carolina are ponying up for price gouging in the wake of Hurricane Ike. State Attorney General Roy Cooper put out a press release yesterday announcing the news.
From the N&O story:
[Cooper] said that the Circle B marked up its prices from $3.99 to $5.49 per gallon Sept. 12. The station overcharged consumers by more than $1,000 between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. that day, Cooper’s office said.
Under an agreement signed by Dilip K. Gala of Circle B, the station will refund $1.50 per gallon to people who bought gas by credit card during the period. The refunds will appear as credits on consumers’ accounts.
John Hood and Roy Cordato deal with this issue here and here.
