Earlier to this week, Scholastic and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation released Primary Sources: America’s Teachers on Teaching in an Era of Change, a report that details teacher attitudes about a number of issues relevant to the profession.
Similar to their colleagues in other states, North Carolina teachers identified four main challenges, including
- Changing demands on both teachers and students (87%);
- Limited earning potential (74%);
- Too-large class sizes (45%); and
- Lack of time to collaborate with colleagues (42%).
But despite these challenges, most North Carolina teachers said that they were content.
Notably, 74% of North Carolina teachers agree that the rewards of teaching outweigh the challenges. Further, the majority of North Carolina teachers feel gratified by their careers, with a full 77% saying they are either satisfied (57%) or very satisfied (20%) in their profession.
