Seems like there were two schools of thought as debate over the bill to give the Greensboro City Council control over the city attorney.

One thought was this was an old issue to which the council was seeking resolution; the other was they just wanted to can J. Rita Danish.

Looks like it’s the latter:

Councilwoman Nancy Vaughan confirmed Tuesday that the council plans to meet in a closed session June 21 to discuss Danish’s “separation” from the city.

Vaughan had lobbied for the General Assembly to give the council authority over the city attorney, with the understanding that the issue was not about Danish’s performance.

“I am very disappointed,” Vaughan said. “I have spoken to numerous community leaders. I gave them my assurance there was no move to force Rita out. Within less than a week, I was proven wrong.”

Some might take exception to council member Jim Kee’s statement that Danish “applies the law equally,” most notably the Rhino’s John Hammer, who regularly cites the “odd decisions” that Danish has handed down since she took over.
