N&R reports the International Civil Right Museum has missed the deadline to turn over its 2012 audit to the city —a condition of the two-year, $1.5 million forgivable loan the City Council approved last year.

And the Feb. 1 deadline is a one-month extension granted by former City Manager Denise Turner Roth, who has since split town for D.C. Roth granted the extension without the council’s consent:

Council members expressed concern that they weren’t informed when the museum didn’t meet the January deadline.

“I would like to know the reason why there was a delay and why they requested an extension and council wasn’t made aware,” Councilwoman Marikay Abuzuaiter said. “Council outlined specifically the timeline.”

Councilman Zack Matheny questioned why the council wasn’t asked to authorize the deadline extension. “It’s very frustrating,” he said.

Current City Manager Jim Westmoreland says he has “no reason to believe it will not be here by Friday. I have expressed to them the seriousness of getting the information into this office.”

We’ll see how serious. There will be tremendous pressure on the City Council to take action if the museum misses this deadline.
