The Greensboro City Council approved a $300,000 loan for the local Black Network Television produce the Watcha Cookin’ sitcom, which BNT hopes to syndicate nationally:

Greensboro mayor Robbie Perkins said the city is open for this type of business and has no problem funding it.

Perkins said he hopes this venture will launch Greensboro as a place for TV production.

“It’s going to be a hot show,” said Michael Woods, who owns Black Network Television with his wife Ramona. “A hot comedy.”

The money comes from $1 million in funding the city sets aside every year for economic development.

The loan has to be repaid over a 10 year period – Woods said they even put up their home as collateral.

Don’t see the word ‘forgivable’ in here, but sometimes news accounts omit it.

As I’ve said before, I love TV and I’m glad to see the creative class at work, but this is not the proper allocation of public funds.
