Let me just say that the Greensboro City Council was pretty effective at doing very little last night.

Two hot-button issues went before the council last night –the proposed downtown noise ordinance and the fate of War Memorial Stadium. Regarding the noise ordinance, the council established a temporary ordinance that “limit noise to 75 decibels after 11 p.m. in commercial areas — a slightly higher threshold than Police Chief Ken Miller recommended.” What happens in six months, when the council is supposedly going to revisit the issue?

The council also decided to further study the fate of War Memorial Stadium further. The proposal on last night’s agenda called for $1.4 million to basically demolish the stadium, leaving the playing field and the historic facade in place.

This has been an issue in Greensboro for years now, with voters most recently turning down a bond funding more extensive renovations in 2006. Makes you wonder what’s going to change in 90 days when the council again addresses the issue.
