Scrolling through JLF’s alternative budget looking for something else when I came across item 759:
ARRA energy funds: Return $112 million in unspent funds to Washington.
Note to Greensboro City Council members Danny Thompson and Trudy Wade, Mayor Bill Knight and anyone else who might be listening: just give back the Department of Energy grant you discussed during Tuesday night’s meeting. Just because the federal government is so eager to give it out doesn’t mean you have to keep it. Just look around.
Trust me on this on this one —-you’ll be doing taxpayers a bigger favor than city staff, that’s for sure.
