Initial reports on the City of Greensboro’s $300k loan to Black Network Television said the ” money comes from $1 million in funding the city sets aside every year for economic development.”

Turns out —after council member Tony Wilkins asked some questions — that’s not the whole story. Turns out –according to a memo from city budget director Larry Davis — money was transferred to the economic development fund from the Field Operations department, due to “savings (that) were generated through a reduction of internal charges for vehicles maintained by Equipment Services and leased to operating departments.”

So it turns out basically Gboro’s Field Operations department is underwriting the “Watcha’ Cookin” sitcom. An unusual partnership, to say the least.
