The Locker Room’s Terry Stoops says GCS’ athletic facilities “could be the envy of the state.” If the $462 million bond referendum passes, that is. At $66 million, the proposed airport-area high school shouldn’t be too shabby, either.

Meanwhile, system CFO Sharon Ozment, in an unposted N&R op-ed, tells the public what she’s been telling the school board for weeks: the state lottery hasn’t produced as much money as expected:

The lottery was projected to generate $10.6 million for Guilford County school construction. Based on current estimates, the district will receive between $7.8 million and $8.2 million. This slippage is anything but lucky, especially since we suffered a $3 million cut in the 2006-07 regular capital outlay appropriation from the Guilford County commissioners.

Speaking of the Guilford County commissioners, it will be interesting to sse their reaction at tonight’s meeting to GCS’ request for $53 million in certificates of participation to rebuild Eastern Guilford High School.
