The Rhino writes up the 2012 Guilford County Schools “Employee Climate Survey.”

Indeed it is interesting reading. The good news is an overwhelming majority —88 percent— of employees expressed confidence in Superintendent Mo Green.

Bad news is teachers expressed concern over the bullying problem is schools. Understandable, except it’s not what you might think:

The bullying issue was the biggest surprise among the answers. Certainly bullying is going on in Guilford County Schools – but it’s generally thought of as student on student, not administrator on teacher. Among the answers to the contrary were:

“The principal at my school is a bully. She uses intimidation tactics to get her way. There is no sense of solidarity in my school because the principal has everyone so scared.”

“Some Executive Directors behave unethically and even abusively toward their staff or the staff of other departments.”

“The principal here is so mean spirited. Its not the kids, its not the amount of work, she is just hateful to everyone. She is a bully. We have lost 4 teachers already this year and we only have 14.”

“Make sure that principals do not bully their employees. That they do not intimidate them and make them feel like they are 2nd graders. Don’t let school principals treat staff like they are idiots.”

“Concerning bullying, we do a great job of protecting our students from bullying by other students but we do little for people who bully our employees. This needs to be addressed. Thank you.”

“Immediate supervisors should be encouraged to be respectful to staff and not bully them. They should be trained in people skills (how to deal with parents, students and staff).”

Wonder if that’s the least or the worst of teacher’s problems, considering they also expressed ‘concerns’ about pay, benefits, classroom discipline……
