Subject: [fsu] Gender Mutiny Collective- 5:30 Tonight!

Hi everyone! The Gender Mutiny Collective will meet this Thursday at 5:30pm at I-Books on Franklin St. I’d like to talk more about short and long term goals, brainstorm for projects more, and get going on something! For those who couldn’t make it last week, here’s a summary of what we talked about:

who are we? here’s some words that some of us use to describe ourselves:
anti-authoritarian
genderqueer
transgender
radical
feminist
anti-capitalist
ally
queer

goals of group:
visibility
education
creating an internal safe space / support network
creating an external safe space for transgendered/genderqueer folk’s bodies and minds
challenging ourselves/others
fun!

some potential projects:
queering of the bars/Franklin St.
speakouts
workshops
bringing films/speakers
gender neutral or trans friendly bathrooms
health clinic (big project!)
trainings for social workers/doctors
social activities
helping GLBT-SA with trans dormitories and gender neutral bathroom projects at UNC
puppetry
connecting with other local trannies and listening to what they have to say

structure of group:
we decided to use consensus decision making with rotating facilitation at meetings
we’d rather be a community group than a student group and have our meetings off campus so they will be more accessible
we talked about having a “social” meeting between the “business” meetings once every 2 weeks or so.
the group will be open to everyone who wants to work on these issues – queers, transgendered folk, allies, friends, partners, whoever. transphobic people or religious people trying to recruit will not be tolerated.
we will meet every Thursday at Internationalist Books on Franklin St. at 5:30pm.

see ya then!
