Mills River was once a bucolic jurisdiction that didn’t play games. It had a very low tax rate and stuck to core services. Unfortunately, just as growth beyond levels of trust has a way of turning cottage industries into bureaucratic mazes, Mills River is slowly emulating the big dogs. Their town council just voted to go pro and pay themselves a little, $3000/year, for now.
