That’s the argument of this Washington Times article today. The two gigantic government sponsored enterprises are hugely to blame for the housing bubble. Abolishing them won’t be a piece of cake, but it needs to be done.

I’d just add that there is no constitutional warrant for government to have “enterprises” active in the housing or any other market. If only we could have stuck with the original idea that Congress had only a few, very specific powers and everything else was unconstitutional.
