As he faces strong opposition in this year’s election, supporters urge Greensboro Mayor Bill Knight to get tough (print edition only):
“I think Bill is doing an excellent job. All I have said negative to him is, ‘You’re too nice,’ said Mary Skenes, a Knight supporter. “You have to start being tough. He says, you know, ‘Well, that is not really my nature.’ I realize that, but it’s time.”
Voters elected Mayor Knight to head a conservative platform on the city Council, and though things are getting a little better, there’s still a long way to go.
And do I even need to express the irony behind the mayor’s quip that he’s “going to the bank” after the city receives a $3 million HUD grant?
