The Polk County Commissioners agreed to enter into a contract valued at $283,282 for “a schematic design and design development” for a new detention center and sheriffs offices. The total for design services is estimated at $797,950. Ray Gasperson cast the lone dissenting vote. He first moved to table discussions until land could be acquired, four methods of financing were weighed in terms of pros and cons, and the county manager estimated the increase in tax rates the construction would necessitate. His motion to table failed for lack of a second.
