Tryon wants to legalize golf carts on public roads, with some restrictions. Asheville wants to plan Charlotte Street because commuters want to go faster, but merchants want them to tarry; drivers want more lanes, cyclists want designated lanes, peds want better sidewalks, and there just isn’t enough space for everybody to have their own lane. You will recall, Asheville was the city that ruled skateboards were not a form of multimodal transportation.

In my opinion, traffic is overplanned. Not too long ago, we were taught in a free country people could go from here to there as they please. Texas has a freer model where people drive this way and that on the pavement, without arrows all over the place, and people sort things out just fine. But then, Texans are friendly folk.
