The folks at the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners are so happy that voters in four counties have approved sales tax hikes that their website story contains this headline:

Quarter-cent sales tax referenda perfect in 2011

Perfect? If you’re keeping score, yes, that’s accurate. All four counties — Orange, Durham, Buncombe, and Montgomery — will raise the sales tax rate in 2012.

But it’s not so “perfect” for those who will be forced to pay more for items subjected to the higher tax rate. The NCACC story also conveniently fails to mention the tactics used by some counties to supposedly “educate” voters about the tax, using taxpayer money. Thanks to JLF’s Daren Bakst, that issue won’t be swept under the rug.
