Rosa Gill, chairwoman of the Wake County Board of Education, will replace state Rep. Dan Blue in the General Assembly, reports the N&O.

Blue was appointed to fill Sen. Vernon Malone’s seat in the state Senate after Malone passed away a few months ago.

Gill’s departure might be the first of several changes on the school board. Four members of the board — all supporters of the system’s policy of busing for socioeconomic diversity – are up for re-election this November. Patti Head, Lori Millberg, and Eleanor Goettee say they won’t run again, while Horace Tart says he will.

The election’s outcome could shift the balance of power on the school board dramatically.
