Some of us have noticed that Newt Gingrich while claiming that sitting on the couch with Nancy Pelosi was the biggest mistake of his life, he hasn’t renounced the views expressed in the now infamous ad promoting global warming alarmism. Well it now appears that he in fact has not changed his mind on the substance of the issue. According to Climate Depot, Newt’s forthcoming book on the environment (in 2013, after the election) will feature a chapter by a Texas Tech climate scientist named Katharine Hayhoe focusing on the science of climate change. This is a person who when asked if the science was settled regarding global warming in a recent interview responded by saying:
Among climate scientists—people who spend their lives researching our world—there is no debate regarding the reality of climate change, and the fact that humans are the primary cause. It is primarily laypeople, such as talk show hosts, or those with vested interests in maintaining the status quo, who are perpetuating the idea that there is no scientific consensus…There’s certainly lots of media hype about a great debate. But there’s really nothing left to debate about the science.
I guess Hayhoe forgot to tell Richard Lindzen, John Christy, Roy Spencer, Nicola Scefetta, Pat Michaels, Fred Singer, Willie Soon, Robert Balling and scores of other highly qualified climate scientists who didn’t get the memo.
As Marc Morano in an editorial for Climat Depot on Newt’s climate charade:
Gingrich has revealed beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is, & always has been – -a committed believer in man-made climate fears! The fact that Hayhoe was chosen to write a chapter in his new book is all we need to know. Will Hayhoe be his potential pick for climate advisor?! Gingrich has never left Pelosi’s couch!…
