In case you’re in the market for girdles, steel-toed shoes, and protractors, they’re exempt from sales tax this weekend. It’s all part of the state’s annual sales tax holiday. I’m all for the holiday but, of course, if the state’s tax code was simple, neutral, and efficient – which it’s not – this event wouldn’t be necessary. You’ll find the complete list of exempt items here.

Now admit it. Wouldn’t you have loved to witness the meeting to decide which items qualify and which items don’t? And isn’t it ironic that the holiday comes just as the legislature imposes a nearly $1 billion tax hike on citizens?
