Cary council members noticed that minutes of their meetings had become “more generic” recently, and they were correct. The Cary News reports that the clerk’s office had started only providing a “summary format” rather than an actual account of discussions. To the council’s credit, they’ve told the clerk’s office that’s not good enough — a victory for transparency of government operations.

It’s important to note that Cary has received a “B” for its transparency efforts from JLF’s Joe Coletti, as detailed on JLF’s transparency monitoring Web site: www.nctransparency.com. Click here to see what Cary makes easily available, and what it doesn’t.

Thanks to the council members for realizing that council minutes are an important window on town activities and policy decisions.
