The Haywood County Chamber of Commerce’s visitor center may close before its first anniversary. The Haywood County TDA has been considering the option since tourism has dropped off, seriously reducing proceeds from the county’s occupancy tax. Some see this as a good opportunity to relocate the center downtown where it can capture more foot traffic. The existing location is described as well-appointed and stately, home to synergies for marketing and branding Waynesville as a destination. Other county offices have been moving to a former Wal-Mart, which just won’t do. Part of the TDA’s mission is to bring itself to the next level.
