Within my lifetime, we’ve seen how people once had to be articulate and literate to be taken seriously. Then, minds opened to accept other forms of communication. A mark of a good leader, we are told, is recognizing talents in hobbled packages.

And so why is it that in public hearings, “organization” tends to determine the winners? Consider the following:

The public hearing will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the county administration building in Sylva.

“From what I have heard there are some organizing on each side of the opinion scale,” County Planner Gerald Green said of the expected turnout.
