I’m grateful for the opportunity to have attended Moogfest on a press pass a couple months ago, and then to receive a gratis ticket from an insider for Brian Eno’s keynote address. Eno taught me a few things that made me more tolerant. One was that art or culture was everything that was not necessary. “You have to walk, but you don’t have to dance. You have to eat, but you don’t have to eat sushi kebobs with gold drizzled on top.” (That’s a paraphrase.) And so, I am not stuck to the ceiling with furor at seeing that, in the current economy, Waynesville is considering getting an arch. Private donations are being accepted, so it is not as bad is if stoics adopting uber-austerity measures will be forced to pitch in.

However, there is an issue. Bryson City is concerned that the slogan that is supposed to adorn the whatnot belongs to them. Hopefully, the matter will not blow up into a battle where taxpayers are paying attorney fees.
