OK, we get it — our wonderful state DOT needs more money. Among the ideas being floated by the transportation committee are a vehicle miles traveled tax, increasing the vehicle registration fee and, of course, the old ‘tried and true’:

The committee also wants a bond referendum to accelerate construction on high-traffic roadways. It is asking the General Assembly to provide for referendums on a local option sales tax of up to 1 percent for counties and cities to use for transportation or transit purposes.

Admittedly, bonds keep passing for some reason, but evidently the committee hasn’t caught on that local sales tax options are not popular with voters.
