In the lead article in today’s Carolina Journal, Paul Chesser notes that North Carolina’s Golden Leaf Foundation, using tobacco settlement proceeds, i.e., revenues looted from smokers, is funding another equestrian center. This one is in Gaston County. Since the plundered smokers who are providing this money are mostly low income and those that patronize horse shows and equestrian parks are mostly upper and upper middle income, this must be the GLF’s way of promoting upward mobility.
