With the adjournment shortly after 1 a.m., legislators are officially done for the year. Unless the governor calls them back to Raleigh for a special session, they’ll stay out of the House and Senate chambers for nearly six months.

A new General Assembly will take the oath of office January 24.

That doesn’t mean the halls of the Legislative Building will be empty. Study commissions will tackle a number of topics between now and the next “long” session.
