Mike and Nova Nelson, owners of the Hob Nob Farm Café in Boone decided that instead of sitting on the grass in the cold weather, they could do a better job of taking money away from the evil corporate bankers if they stopped accepting credit and debit cards. The 3% fees on transactions added up to about $100 a day for the business. Since some people don’t like to carry cash, the Nelsons compromised by purchasing an ATM machine that only sends 50 cents per transaction to out-of-town banks.
