Hardly anybody will believe we are following this country’s design for a constitutional republic. We’ve heard terms like “welfare state,” and “bureaucracy,” with widespread perception that we are more of a crony oligopoly. The system is complex, and its problems defy a two-word descriptor, but the writer of an LTE to the Sylva Herald, to which one must subscribe to learn his name, suggests we add to the mix something like “redistricted democracy.”
