An article in the local daily today whines that economic developers were in the middle of recruiting the mother of all economic engines – some multibillion-dollar, multinational of freakish proportions even greater than those of General Electric – to locate in Buncombe County, create high-paying jobs, and drop gobs and oodles of economic multipliers out the yin-yang in the community. Then, the evil legislators stood up for the farmers about to become homeless in Lumberton. They thought surely those multimillionaires in charge of said corporation ought to have enough business sense to figure out how to run a company without raising taxes on the poor Lumberton farmers. Ooh! Can you feel the outrage? Let’s all get signs demonizing Art Pope and the Koch brothers and make those evil legislators tax the poor more so we can get this but-for turkey on the road.
