Representative Pricey Harrison and friends have introduced a bill that would place a moratorium on the construction of new coal-fired power plants.

The name of the bill is hilarious:

“A BILL TO BE ENTITLE AN ACT TO PROVIDE ECONOMIC RELIEF TO ELECTRIC UTILITY RATEPAYERS during this period of economic recession and the coming recovery period by placing a moratorium on the construction of new coal‑fired power plants.”

Their apparent logic

By not building the lowest cost generating source of electricity and instead forcing ratepayers to pay for far more expensive and unreliable electricity sources, this will provide economic relief.

This will be especially economically beneficial to the poor who are disproportionately affected by higher energy prices because a larger percentage share of their income goes to energy compared to other individuals.

The Green* attack on the poor continues–pick almost any of their policy recommendations and it has a regressive effect.  To them, people are the problem, so if the poor get hurt, then who cares?

*There is nothing green about these environmental extremistsWind power plants, for example, take up about 90 times more land than coal-fired power plants.  To generate 1,000 MW (a good-sized coal plant) of electricity would require acreage the size of Fayetteville, Raleigh, and Wilmington combined.  Biomass (which the greens like) actually is far worse for air quality and yes, even for CO2 emissions, than coal!  Even the out-of-control Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has explained how bad biomass is to air quality.

“Green” doesn’t mean environmentally-friendly, it is a secular cult that uses concern for the environment to advance anti-development, anti-capitalist, anti-human, and anti-poor policies.
