As the economy continues to tank, the GOP continues to gear up. At least according to this analysis by The Hill, which argues Republicans are enjoying ?their best candidate recruitment streak in years?:
The past week has been chock-full of good news for Republicans on the recruiting front and follows troubling developments for Democrats on their side of the ballot.
The GOP has seen candidate recruitment rise as joblessness continues to climb to new highs and Wall Street retreats after a brief respite in March, April and May. Compounding the situation, Republicans say, are Democrats? recent moves to push forward with politically divisive efforts on energy and healthcare, along with broaching another stimulus package.
The Hill also points out that Democrats have yet to find a challenger to North Carolina’s Richard Burr.
Meanwhile, indications are that Obama?s honeymoon with the American public might be coming to an end, and the full realization that yes, you married this tax-hiking, media-controlling socialist is setting in.
A Quinnipiac University poll released this week found a 49 percent approve/44 percent disapprove split when respondents were asked to rate the president?s job performance. The numbers aren?t Bush-esque, but they do reflect a growing trend mirrored by other polling.
Although it?s been just six months since Obama?s inauguration, voters might already be shifting blame for the recession from Republicans to Obama, especially since there are scant signs of recovery in the immediate future. The American electorate isn’t known for its patience.
