Gov. Easley recently concluded a press conference in the
Administrative Building announcing a $10.4 million grant from the Bill
and Melinda Gates Foundation for the New Schools Project and Learn and
Earn program. More on that grant a little later. During the question
and answer section, Easley made some interesting comments on the
newly-released Senate budget, immigration reform, and minimum wage.

On the Senate Budget:
“It’s a fantastic budget. They’ve done a great job with it and they’ve
done it with light speed. It’s the best education budget that we’ve
seen come out of the Senate at least in my lifetime.”

On immigration reform: “Things
have to change in Washington. … If we don’t we are just going to
create a premanent underclass in America and that is something we
cannot afford to do.”

On minimum wage: Easley said he would support the $1 increase that is included in the Senate budget.
