More evidence of hypocrisy from the Left comes courtesy of Reuters:
U.S. health insurance companies must fully cover women’s birth control and other preventive health care services under Obama administration rules released on Monday.
The mandate from the Health and Human Services Department represents a landmark decision in a decades-long debate on women’s health issues that has pitted family planning groups against conservative organizations.
OK, so liberals support the federal government requiring private insurers to do away with co-pays for contraceptives. Please note that this is a federal requirement — about as intrusive as you can get.
In the meantime, liberals had their collective undies in a wad last week after the N.C. General Assembly overrode Gov. Bev Perdue’s veto of the Woman’s Right to Know bill. The measure requires a 24-hour waiting period and state-specified counseling prior to an abortion. The core of liberals’ argument against the bill: it’s an unprecedented invasion of the private doctor-patient relationship.
My question: If these kinds of state-level requirements are intrusive beyond belief, what about the federal intrusion on contraception? I guess it’s only government coercion when it fits their agenda.
