I’m certainly not trying to downplay the recent tragic deaths of infants while sleeping in bed with their parents. But as anyone with kids knows, it’s just part of life while with an infant, one of many that require common sense in order to keep everyone happy, healthy and alive.

But the way the Journal see it, nothing short of a government program will do:

North Carolina has made a concerted effort over the past two decades to cut down on injuries and deaths to children of all ages. With suffocation and strangulation, the state now has another front on which to wage that war. No doubt, the legislature will be asked to provide funds for an education program, and public-health officials will have a difficult job ahead of them in persuading parents to break with tradition.

It’s an effort in which all North Carolinians can join. Safe sleeping habits for our young is something we can all preach.
