In his column today, Sheldon Richman makes the important point that while systems under government control must ration things (food, medical care, etc.), it’s inaccurate to say that the market rations things. The market simply allows people to make the purchases they desire to. That is not the same as “rationing.”

Some advocates of nationalizing health care have taken to saying, “So what if the government rations health care? That what the market does. We’ll do it better.” Sheldon’s column provides the way to refute that line.
