I remember the morning well almost four years ago—- I was at the downtown farmer’s market when I ran into local blogger David Hoggard, who described the scene he encountered earlier that morning — the Summit Avenue ‘Castle’ on fire, a victim lying in the grass.

The victim was local musician Ransom Hobbs. Another victim, Deborah Moy, was badly burned and has had to endure 36 operations since that time. The case went unsolved for three years until an arrest was made last year. Now we read suspect Michael Slagle walked out of the Guilford County jail on Thursday due to what Greensboro Police Chief Ken Miller described as “shortfalls” in the investigation that could compromise a trial.

Miller said the case is not closed and —as the N&R writes — “detectives are continuing to investigate the case under new procedures.”

You’d think so.
