Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is the latest public hospital to lose Medicare and Medicaid funding. Unlike Broughton Hospital, which has been without federal money for six months, HRMC has hired a for-profit British consulting firm to rescue it. While people complain about privatization in mental health reform and the greed of private for-profit and not-for-profit medical companies, it is the government sector that puts its patients at greatest risk.
