Perhaps inspired by the ruckuses at various townhalls over the health care issue, “an alliance of 18 national groups and scores of local organizations” have put together a series of “Energy Citizen” rallies in opposition to the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill in Congress. The first was held in Houston yesterday (Drudge noticed it) and drew 3,500 people, or as the Chronicle reported, “1,500 more than expected.”
The next rally is tomorrow in Greensboro at the Coliseum. Doors open at 5:30 and the event will conclude at 7:30. The agenda is subject to change, but I’m told the following will speak: Larry Wooten, president of the NC farm bureau; Valerie White, student loan officer, UNC Greensboro; Nathan Tabor, CEO of TCV Media; and Alan Pugh, member of the NC board of transportation.
The groups staging the rallies:
? 60-Plus
? American Conservative Union
? American Farm Bureau Federation
? American Highway Users Alliance
? American Petroleum Institute
? Americans for Tax Reform
? American Trucking Associations
? Coalition for Affordable American Energy
? Council for Citizens Against Government Waste
? Freedom Works

? National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors
? National Black Chamber of Commerce

? United States Chamber of Commerce
