A couple of outlets are reporting that former WXII anchor Tolly Carr will plead guilty to charges related to the March drunk driving accident that killed Casey Bokhoven. What interesting is the fact that, of all people, Guilford County Schools Superintendent Terry Grier is caught up in the middle of it all:

In a July 16 letter to Forsyth County Superior Court officials, schools Superintendent Terry Grier said he would welcome Carr as a speaker to address students “on the evils of drunk driving.”

In the letter, Grier said “a professional teacher and speaker who admits criminal guilt and takes responsibility for the death of another person could be a powerful and positive influence on our students.”

Greensboro attorney Locke Clifford said Carr will plead guilty to all the charges he faces. Carr has not made any plea arrangements, but Clifford said he hopes the judge will take into consideration Carr’s desire to do community service.

“What is important in any sentencing is for the judge to know not only the facts of the incident … but also to know the man that’s being sentenced,” Clifford said. “Tolly Carr is a man of passion. He’s a man of caring and he would like very much to be influential in the area of stopping people, adults and children, from following the path he is now (on).”

Note the sentence in bold. WSJS doesn’t have the story on its Web site, but its top-of-the hour report (if I heard right) indicated that Grier’s letter pretty much forced Clifford’s hand. I’ll stay tuned and update as necessary.
