Assistant Buncombe County Manager Mandy Stone recently requested an extra $119,925 to help the Health and Human Services Department do its part to get the state out of the deep doodoo it was in because social service workers cannot process increasing and ever-changing paperload requirements fast enough to meet changing federal requirements. Stone was going to restructure the department rather than ask for new hires. Over the weekend, though, I noticed in the hard copy of the Mountain Xpress over three columns of positions advertised by Haywood County’s HHS department.
