Greensboro City Council member Robbie Perkins now plans to lobby fellow council members for a 1-1.5-cent tax increase in light of problems with the proposed hold-the-line budget. Perkins said he’ll try to sway the council to pass the tax increase so the city will be in better financial shape next year. Forgive me if I’m skeptical.

With this situation in mind, Greensboro’s Byron Loflin, in today’s op-ed argues that the proposed $26 million greenway would “define the city’s soul,” whatever that means. But Loflin doesn’t stop with the greenway, hoping that “Greensboro citizens will fund the civil rights museum, downtown development and more.”

I don’t know where he thinks the money’s coming from. Oh yeah, the state.
