The City of Greensboro lured Terry Wood out of retirement to become the city’s attorney. I would say the “new” city attorney, but there’s nothing new about Wood; he worked in the city’s legal department for 22 years before retiring last June and working on a part-time basis.

I have no doubt Wood is a capable individual, as evidenced when he tried to explain to the City Council exactly why the minimum wage petition wouldn’t stand up in court. But I’m not sure exactly what it says when a city government put out a search for a new attorney and the best they can do is luring someone out of retirement. How long before Wood decides he’s had enough and is ready retire again?

With that in mind, you have to wonder if attorneys don’t want to work for local government in general, or just not Greensboro’s.
