Greensboro Police Chief Tim Bellamy is going around telling anyone who will listen that his decision to retire was influenced by the election of Mayor Bill Knight, who dissed Bellamy during the campaign.
The fact that Bellamy believes this somehow matters now is a total joke. But the real joke is Mayor Knight and the City Council have been so benign and ineffective lately that I can’t possibly see how anyone could be offended. Remember also how I noted earlier in the week Knight’s interesting vote on the GTA facilty that was held up by affirmative action issues.
The Rhino’s John Hammer had been reporting that the council was wising up to staff’s shenanigans, but this week we get the ‘same old song.’ The dream of a council that would “become more businesslike and more conservative” is fading fast.
Update: Ed Cone says ‘this town needs to grow the hell up.’ I agree wholeheartedly, but with a radically different perspective.
