What am I missing here? Today’s N&R headline says “Council approves cost-conscious policies,” but a careful read reveals the only policy that officially went into effect at last night’s meeting was a freeze on an assistant city manager’s position.
Everything else is still on the table. There’s no timeline on selling the bonds should they pass and council member Mike Barber’s motion to delay new property purchases failed by a 3-6 vote, meaning the proposed purchase of the Canada Dry property and the Coliseum Inn is still very much in the works. The city wants that property in a bad way, especially as it prepares to roll out its ‘dream Lee Street,’ which now also includes a new headquarters for Guilford County Schools.
Again, what am I missing here?
Update: I just watched the video of the City Council’s discussion of the proposed purchase of the Coliseum Inn and the Canada Dry property. Council member Zack Matheny emphasized that they were only setting a public hearing on the matter and they’d listen to the public before making a decision. But listening to the discussion, I’d say the decision’s already been made.
