What will the new numbers be for the South Blvd. light rail line?
Ron Tober is supposed to tell the Charlotte City Council tonight. There are two important figures to be filled in. One is the overall cost estimate, now at $427 million but which does not include at least $50 million in light rail-related expenses. The other is the completion date, now November 2007 with a drop-dead date of December 31, 2007.
My prediction? $451 million and March 2008.
Those numbers are related, of course. Time is money and money is time. The project is only about halfway done and that I-485 parking deck is turning into a real problem, hence another three-month delay — I think anyway. Let’s see what we get.
