Carl L. Bankston III is chair of the Department of Sociology at Tulane University. His primary interests are the sociology of education and international migration. He is author or editor of seventeen books, the most recent of which are Public Education – America’s Civil Religion: A Social History (2009) and Forced to Fail: The Paradox of School Desegregation (2005) (both written with Stephen J. Caldas). Bankston has also published over 100 journal articles and book chapters, as well as contributions to magazines and websites.
