Harry R. Lewis, former dean of Harvard College, is the author of Excellence without a Soul: How a Great University Forgot Education and coauthor of Blown to Bits: Your Life, Liberty, and Happiness After the Digital Revolution. Lewis has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard. He became the Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science at Harvard in 1981 and in 2003 was named Harvard College Professor. Jane S. Shaw is president of the John W. Pope Center for Higher Education Policy. Before joining the Pope Center she was a senior fellow with the Property and Environment Research Center in Bozeman, Montana. She is coauthor of Facts, Not Fear: Teaching Children about the Environment and A Guide to Smart Growth and has a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College.
