Guilford County commissioners last night unanimously voted to divert $7 million in hotel tax revenue for the city’s new aquatic center.
Joe Killian reports that the item was on the consent agenda and was approved without a public hearing or discussion among commissioners. I realize it was a forgone conclusion that commissioners would sign off on the deal, but at the very least I expected some honest debate from a supposedly impartial third party. Reckon not.
It also makes me wonder if the Greensboro City Council is now going to repay commission chairman Skip Alston by signing off on the taxpayer-financed downtown hotel across the street from his International Civil Rights Museum. In case you forgot, Alston’s also the property broker on that deal.
